Photography Case Study - DEPT x Tinder
As part of a long term ongoing relationship, marketing agency Dept. have been working with Tinder developing campaigns aimed at increasing reach and engagement with student populations across the UK.
I was commissioned to document the campaign as it rolled out across Manchester City Centre and surrounding areas. With a brief which outlined photographing stills and Timelapse of the Out Of Home displays, the objective was to show how the selection of materials and their placement were presented in engaging ways to high foot fall areas.
These images were part of the presentation to Tinder on the success of their student campaign.
By using slow shutter speeds and a tripod mounted camera I was able to maintain the anonymity of members of the public depicted in the images whilst also giving the area a sense of fast paced crowds. This evokes the atmosphere of the campaign and justifies the placement through the large amounts of evident foot fall and in other case passing traffic.
As this was a timed based campaign, the light projections being schedule for specific times and days, I was able to maximise my effectiveness by planning a route through the city which ended at the time and location where the projections were positioned. My proximity to the city also reduced travel time and location confusion. This meant I was able to deliver the work quickly and cost effectively.
Feedback included noting the relative savings versus previous out of town commissions, the speed of turnaround, communication over issues and the quality of final output.
